Artisan Marketplace, Folsom Premium Outlets – Folsom, CA
The inaugural Artisan Marketplace creates a boutique handcrafted art alfresco experience inside the Center Drive area at Folsom Premium Outlets on Saturday, April 29 from 10am-6pm and Sunday, April 30 from 10am-5pm. Featuring treasures crafted by more than 40 artisans this open-air marketplace celebrates the artists’ talent and an opportunity to learn about their inspiration in creating lasting beauty.
As part of the event, Redwood Coast Creative Arts will be on-hand showcasing artists from their gallery and providing demos and make and take crafts. An area favorite, Farm Stand Lemonade, will be on-site serving up handcrafted summer-flavored lemonades with delicious options such as pineapple-mint, strawberry basil and bubbling citrus sunrise. Additionally, Off the Grid: Folsom Premium Outlets will be on hand with their “pop-up lunch event with food trucks and live music” from noon to 4 p.m. each day.
The Artisan Marketplace invites visitors to spend a few relaxing hours enjoying Folsom Premium Outlets and this boutique event showcasing handcrafted art in the outdoors.
Among the celebrated art and artists:
Doug Wylie is truly a one-of-a-kind designer. Doug has a passion for presenting the natural world in a unique and authentic way, creating refined and graceful art. From ceramic and pewter to unique sculpture pieces and bronze statues, Doug’s experience informs his
creations of high-quality art that radiate craftsmanship and quality regardless of subject matter or scale. Throughout his adult life, he’s spent a significant amount of time swimming with whales, dolphins, mantas, and a number of other marine animals. And while these experiences are certainly incredible in their own right, they inspired him to create anatomically correct versions of these marvelous species. One look at Doug’s art and you will be fascinated by the way that he brings life to sculpted marine animals in their most playful and joyous poses–whether an accurate representation of an animal in its natural habitat or a motion-influenced interpretation of behavior.
Kateryna Golovanova creates woven and knitted accessories including scarves, shawls, wraps, some hats and socks. All of her products are handmade with natural fibers, such as wool, viscose and cotton. Kateryna learned to knit at seven years old and later learned how to crochet. Those skills led her toward a deeper appreciation of working with fibers and a desire to begin spinning yarn and weaving. “I really think that if you do something for others you should know everything about it. As a knitter and weaver I love to know a lot about different types of yarn, their properties and abilities,” she says.
Texture, dimension, and color are the basis for Karen Hale’s original acrylic abstract artwork. The use of varying elements contribute to each of her contemporary abstract designs. Each canvas is bold but also brings in subtle nuances of color and meaning that takes the viewer into the painting where they can make new and unexpected insights. Karen’s mixed media paintings are non-representational, constructed of many layers and may include texture medium, glazes, washes, graphite pencil, found papers, pen and pastels. Whether you are renovating a space on your own or working with a designer, Karen is available to help with a selection from her collection of work or by creating a custom contemporary art piece for your home or office.
Cathy Cederlind finds interesting items, such as vintage buttons, watch parts, stone cabochons, fabrics and lace, and embellishes these items to make unique jewelry pieces. Crystals, glass beads, ultra suede and leather finish off each work of art. Cathy creates and designs all of the jewelry, which are each one of a kind or limited editions. With an extensive background in art, Cathy brings to her designs an understanding of color theory; in fact, color design is the most challenging and rewarding part of her designs. Second to color theory, buttons play a key role in Cathy’s work. As an avid button collector, Cathy is constantly searching for unusual and interesting buttons to use as centerpieces in her work and she often incorporates vintage and contemporary Czech buttons into her work. Artisan Marketplace provides the perfect opportunity to talk with Cathy about her designs and to find a jewelry treasure to add to your wardrobe.
